Is this PHIPA/HIPAA compliant?

It can be. Compliance is architecture, not a checkbox. Data minimization (agent only sees what it needs), encryption in transit and at rest, proper consent flows, signed BAAs where required, and zero unnecessary PHI in AI prompts. I've built for Ontario PHIPA clinics and US HIPAA clinics. Bring your compliance person to the first call so we can scope correctly from day one.

Does Jane have an API I can use?

Jane's public API is limited compared to modern SaaS. That shapes how we architect. We use Jane's online booking, webhooks where available, and approved data exports. A lot of the automation sits in adjacent systems (email, SMS, AI) with Jane as the source of truth. This works well and keeps Jane's data model clean. For things the API doesn't expose, we use Jane's built-in communication tools or work around with email/SMS.

What if a patient asks the AI a clinical question?

AI is scoped to admin and scheduling only. Clinical questions get a polite 'we'll have your practitioner follow up' and a flag to your team. No AI-generated medical advice, ever. This is both a regulatory requirement and a trust requirement.

Will this replace my receptionist?

No. It takes the repetitive stuff off their plate so they can focus on patients who actually need human help. Most clinics keep their reception team and reception happiness goes up because they stop doing the grind work. For clinics that have been chronically short on reception, AI takes the pressure off without needing another hire.

How long does setup take?

3-5 weeks. Week 1 is compliance review and integration mapping. Week 2-3 is building reminders, reactivation, and intake flows. Week 4-5 is testing and handover. Compliance review can add time if your regulatory setup is complex. Multi-location setups add 1-2 weeks for standardization.
